2024 BPI Media Project / Summer Residency

Building the narrative. The representation and celebration of the Bard Prison Initiative mission in 2024, the humans who make it happen, and those who travel to Annandale to share the mission and expertise.

Depth of value / the short list

  • Documentation, in motion and stills (including portraits, environs, details, vibe)

  • A curiosity-driven, visually poetic narrative story of the 2024 Residency — a synthesis of observations and interviews delivered as a short form video (5 minutes)

  • My method is to work audio first via transcripts and a strategic and poetic story-telling. Because it is language designed, it will be composed of “chapters” — conceptual breaks that can easily separated into 30 second to one minute segments for social media purposes.

  • A key-worded, easy access library of photographic images and b-roll with unlimited usage

  • The transcript of the video can easily be repurposed, perhaps as a sweet zine that can be shared with funders and participants

  • Media will serve to uplift and honor the Summer Residency participants and their stories

  • Behind the scenes “getting to know you” sneak peeky bits of b-roll

  • I’ll use my voice and my vision to connect the dots and explore all of the nooks and crannies.

For the Catskill Center’s 50th anniversary, the board contracted me to photograph fifty “movers and shakers” throughout the Catskills for the book, Natural Resources: 50 Stewards of the Catskills.

added valuE

In addition to the printed books, we created sets of cards from the outtakes that were sent as thank you gifts to supporters.

And a permanent installation of the printed portraits was installed in the Erpf Gallery.

I see the BPI media project as rich or richer in the possibility of its added value. Elements can easily be used for the purpose of development, outreach + connection.
