Silver Fly Release

Hoping that they would consume the hemlock wooly adelgid (an invasive species which is desiccating much of NY’s hemlock forest) and function as a biological control, the NYS Hemlock Initiative conducted a controlled release of Leucopis argenticollis and Leucopis piniperda, (silver flies) May 2018.

I had the good fortune of being present to document the release with CRISP’s John Thompson and Catskill Mountainkeeper.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
